Amharic Interest Group
With 22 million speakers worldwide, Amharic is the second-most widely spoken Semitic language in the world, after Arabic. The Amharic Interest Group at Georgetown University seeks to bring together members of the Georgetown community who are interested in the Amharic language and Ethiopian culture, and we likewise strive to build and maintain ties between Georgetown University and the vibrant Ethiopian community of the greater Washington, DC area, home to 12,000 speakers of Amharic and related languages. Our meetings serve as opportunities for discussing Amharic learning resources, bringing together Amharic learners and native speakers from the DC community, and sharing delicious Ethiopian food.
