You can use any phrases, words, or characters. Avoid using the same title twice as that will cause problems. You can use commas, apostrophes, quotes, hyphens\/dashes, and other typical symbols in the post like \u201cMy Site \u2013 Here\u2019s Lookin\u2019 at You, Kid\u201d. WordPress will then clean it up to generate a user-friendly and URL-valid name of the post (also called the post slug) to compose the permalink for the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"body-copy-box\">Body copy box<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">The blank box where you enter your text, links, links to images, and blocks. See our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/block-catalog\/\">block catalog<\/a>&nbsp;for detailed examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"preview-button\">Preview button<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Allows you to preview the post\/page before officially publishing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"publish-box\">Publish box<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Contains buttons that control the state of your post. The main states are Published, Pending Review and Draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-block-list list list-unordered\"><li>The&nbsp;<em>Published<\/em>&nbsp;status means the post has been published live on your site for all to see.<\/li><li><em>Pending Review<\/em>&nbsp;means the draft is waiting for review by an editor prior to publication. In order to designate a page as&nbsp;<em>Pending Review,<\/em>&nbsp;the editor must check the Pending Review box and then click the Save Draft button.<\/li><li><em>Draft<\/em>&nbsp;means the post has not been published and remains a draft.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"scheduling-a-post-for-future-publication\">Scheduling a post for future publication<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">To schedule a post for publication at a future time or date, click the date in the Publish area. Change the settings to the desired time and date. Click the \u201cPublish\u201d button, and the post will be published at the desired time and date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">You can also change the publish date to a date in the past to back-date posts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"permalink\">Permalink<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Permalink is a portmanteau for \u201cpermanent link\u201d. The permalink is a user-friendly URL derived from the post title and parent page. If your title is \u201cMy Site \u2013 Here\u2019s Lookin\u2019 at You, Kid\u201d, it will be cleaned up to create the slug \u201cmy-site-heres-lookin-at-you-kid\u201d. You can manually change this, maybe shortening it to \u201cmy-site-lookin-at-you-kid\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"save-draft\">Save Draft<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Allows you to save your post\/page as a draft \/ pending review rather than immediately publishing it. To return to your drafts later, visit Posts &gt; All Posts or Pages &gt; All Pages in the menu bar, then select your post\/page from the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"publish\">Publish<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Publishes your post\/page on the site. You can edit the time when the post\/page is published by clicking the date next to Publish and specifying the time you want the post\/page to be published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"categories\">Categories<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">The general topic that a post can be classified in. Readers can browse specific categories to see all posts in the category. To add a new category, click the \u201c+Add New Category\u201d link in this section. You can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/content-editor\/categories-tags\/#categories\">manage your categories<\/a>&nbsp;by hovering over Posts in the admin area, then going to Categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"post-tags\">Post Tags<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Posts with similar tags are linked together when a user clicks one of the tags.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/content-editor\/categories-tags\/#tags\">Add new tags<\/a>&nbsp;to the post by typing the tag into the box and clicking \u201cAdd\u201d. A post should have no more than 5 tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"featured-image\">Featured Image<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">The Featured Image will appear at the top of your page or post, as and can be included along with the Excerpt when your post is pulled into another page via News. The excerpt can be manually edited in the post sidebar, otherwise, an automatic excerpt is generated based on the post content.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"gu-block gu-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/525\/2022\/02\/excerpt.png\" alt=\"Excerpt section of a Post's inspector panel.\" class=\"wp-image-1628\" width=\"410\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/525\/2022\/02\/excerpt.png 547w, https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/525\/2022\/02\/excerpt-300x211.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"page-attributes\">Page Attributes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">These fields apply to pages, but not to posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"template\">Template<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">This section allows you to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/content-editor\/pages-posts\/#page-types\">change the page type<\/a>, which provides different options for displaying the page content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"parent-page\">Parent Page<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Setting the parent page adds the parent page\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/content-editor\/managing-content\/#permalink\">URL slug<\/a>&nbsp;(as well as the parent\u2019s parent page URL slug, and so on) to the full URL of the current page. For example, the full URL for the Creating new content page is https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/content-editor\/managing-content\/creating\/.
