You do not necessarily need to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/content-editor\/images-media\/media-library\/adding-media\/\">add media<\/a>\u00a0directly to the media library for it to show up there. Use individual images, image galleries, and videos to enhance website content. To add a media file to the Media Library, go to \u201cMedia\u201d > \u201cLibrary\u201d in the Administration Menu. Then select the \u201cAdd New\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Then click \u201cSelect Files\u201d and locate the appropriate file(s). Then select \u201cOpen\u201d and the file(s) will appear in the Media Library.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"gu-block gu-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/add-media-1-1024x401.png\" alt=\"View of the Media Library highlighting where to add new media files.\" class=\"wp-image-2080\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Clicking on the uploaded file will open the Attachment Details section.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"gu-block gu-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/attachment-details-1024x581.jpg\" alt=\"View of the Attachment Details editor for media. \" class=\"wp-image-4178\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">At the top right, there is information about the image: the image file name and type, the date the image was uploaded, and the image dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">The fields underneath that information should be edited before uploading the media:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-block-list list list-unordered\"><li><strong>Alternative text<\/strong>&nbsp;allows visually impaired users to hear a description of the image with their screen readers. Be sure to add alternative text to any uploaded images. For best practices on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/accessibility.georgetown.edu\/websites\/images\">writing alternative text<\/a>, visit our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/accessibility.georgetown.edu\/\">Web Accessibility<\/a>&nbsp;website.<\/li><li><strong>The Title field<\/strong>&nbsp;will display the image title. To update the Title change the words in the field.&nbsp;<strong>The caption<\/strong>&nbsp;is an optional field that will display text below the image.<\/li><li><strong>The caption<\/strong>&nbsp;is an optional field that will display text below the image.<\/li><li><strong>The description<\/strong>&nbsp;is an optional description of the image that will display on the image attachment page (if you choose for the image to be linked to its attachment page).<\/li><li><strong>The image URL<\/strong>&nbsp;is the full direct link to where the image is stored on the site which cannot be changed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">For more information on adding media to a webpage, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/1789-documentation\/content-editor\/images-media\/\">Images &amp; Media page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading body-text-heading\" id=\"deleting-media\">Deleting Media<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph body-text\">Editors can permanently delete any file in the Media Library.
