Opportunities After CCT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019m an international student. Are CCT students eligible to apply for the 2-year STEM extension of the Optional Practical Training period?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

CCT\u2019s CIP code<\/a> is 09.0702, which is STEM eligible. Students wishing to apply for this extension must first successfully complete the regular 12-month OPT period following completion of the program, then follow guidance from Georgetown\u2019s Office of Global Services on the STEM OPT Extension<\/a> to apply for the additional 24 months of work authorization.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Do CCT students pursue Ph.D. programs after graduating?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes, some do. Roughly 15-20 percent of CCT grads pursue a Ph.D. or another qualification, e.g. a law degree. Many students have found that their exposure to multiple research methods and opportunity to learn from supportive faculty while at CCT boosted their analytical and academic skills, giving them a strong foundation for doctoral research.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pre-Application Questions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I would like to find out more about CCT. May I speak with a faculty member, student or alum?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes. Please review faculty<\/a>, student<\/a> and alumni<\/a> profiles, then contact CCT Admissions<\/a> to request an introduction. We encourage prospective students to find out as much as they can about our unique program.\u00a0You can also attend a CCT Admissions Information Session.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I do not have a background in computer science or coding. What courses do you recommend I take before applying to CCT?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

You do not need to take any preparatory courses before applying to CCT. We do not require that CCT students be technologists or aspire to be technologists. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and build their individualized curriculum based on their own interests, abilities and personal goals. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I have taken graduate courses that did not lead to a degree. Can I transfer those credits if I apply to CCT?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Students may transfer a maximum of 9 credits from another institution towards their CCT degree requirements. Not all courses are eligible, however. In reviewing transfer requests, the Graduate School would need detailed information, such as transcripts and course syllabi. Application and Admissions Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Can students enroll on a part-time basis?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes, although full-time admission is strongly encouraged. Part-time students take two classes per semester and have three years to complete the program. CCT classes meet once a week and are scheduled throughout the day and evening. Mandatory classes meet in the evenings.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>One of my transcripts is not in English. Is this acceptable?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Your transcript must be accompanied by an English language version provided by the academic institution. If your institution does not provide English language copies, applicants are responsible for providing a certified or notarized translation along with a copy of the original transcripts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applicants who have attended institutions outside of the United States are strongly encouraged to upload their transcripts in the form of World Education Services<\/a> (WES) ICAP evaluations or may utilize other credential evaluation services that are members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services<\/a> (NACES). Applicants should upload this evaluation directly to the application. If the evaluation does not include a copy of the transcripts that were evaluated, applicants must upload both the transcripts from the institution and the credential evaluation as one document to the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>My writing sample is more than 25 pages long. What should I do?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

If it is a few pages over 25, please go ahead and upload it. If it is much longer, please check with CCT Admissions at cctadmissions@georgetown.edu.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>My writing sample is under 15 pages long. What should I do?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

You may submit two writing samples if they are each under 15 pages. If you have other concerns, please check with CCT Admissions at cctadmissions@georgetown.edu.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>My writing sample is a report from a group assignment. Is this acceptable?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

No. The review committee will need to see a sample of only your writing. Keep in mind that the purpose of the writing sample is to show how well you handle high-level academic writing and produce original critical analysis. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I have been working for some time and don\u2019t have a recent academic writing sample. What should I do?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

You may submit an assignment that was done in college, as well as a more recent piece written in a professional context. If you have further questions, please check with CCT Admissions at cctadmissions@georgetown.edu.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>May I have employers provide recommendations rather than professors?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes, provided your employer can speak to your analytical and critical thinking skills. Please ensure that at least one of the three recommenders is familiar with your academic abilities.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>May I submit additional information with my application?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

If you have written blog posts, produced videos, or have some other kind of creative product, you may list these urls in your resume and explain what your role was in this work. Testing and Scores<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>What are the average TOEFL scores and GPAs for enrolled students? Can you provide some class profile statistics (years of work experience, number of international students, etc.)?<\/a><\/h3>

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Do I have to take the TOEFL or IELTS if I studied at an English language school for a few years but did not receive a degree?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes. You will need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score if you do not have a Bachelor\u2019s or higher degree from a school where English was the primary language of instruction.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Financial Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Does CCT award scholarships?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes. Please note that these are very competitive so we recommend applying to both Georgetown and non-Georgetown funding sources to increase your chances of receiving an award. See Tuition & Scholarships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I have been offered admission to CCT. I did not apply for a CCT scholarship or fellowship before the January 15 deadline but I need one to finance my education. Can I ask for an award now?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

No. Since these are merit-based awards, we consider all applications at the same time in order to select the most deserving candidates. Once funds are awarded to the successful scholars and fellows, we have no more funding to offer for that academic year.
<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I have been offered admission to CCT and did not receive a scholarship or fellowship. Would I be able to apply later for financial support in my second year?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

No. Unfortunately, CCT scholarships and fellowships are only available to incoming students. However, there may be other financial awards that you could apply for. See “External Scholarships” in Tuition and Scholarships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Do many students work while taking courses?<\/a><\/h3>
\n

Yes. Most full-time CCT students are employed on a part-time basis. CCT students not only have access to the rich and varied Georgetown University student jobs database but also receive a weekly list of job and internship opportunities especially suited to CCTers. There are also part-time CCT students who work full-time.
