Osborn<\/a> stopped by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mia.org.qa\/en\/library\/staff-recommendations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar<\/a> to present a copy of his new book <a href=\"\/jr-osborn-letters-of-light\">Letters of Light: Arabic Script in Calligrpahy, Print, and Digital Design<\/a> for the museum library. J.R. used several of the museum\u2019s books and resources while researching his own. In the summer of 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/123941968@N02\/albums\/72157649122072121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J.R. brought a group of CCT students to Doha<\/a> for a three-week program on \u201cNew Communication Technologies and Politics in the Arab World: Perspectives from the Gulf,\u201d which he directed with <a href=\"http:\/\/explore.georgetown.edu\/people\/mz92\/?PageTemplateID=360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mohamed Zayani<\/a>. During that summer, students studied the museum\u2019s use of digital technologies for preservation and display. J.R. later returned to museum after receiving a Hamad Bin Khalifa Travel Fellowship, which allowed him to attend \u201cBy the Pen and What They Write: Writing in Islamic Art and Culture,\u201d the Sixth Biennial Hamad bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art. Letters of Light was finalized shortly after this influential symposium on Arabic script.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor J.R.
