The competition is held annually by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ansi.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">American National Standards Institute (ANSI)<\/a> to promote standards education. Lu\u2019s paper, titled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/publicaa.ansi.org\/sites\/apdl\/Documents\/News%20and%20Publications\/Links%20Within%20Stories\/First_place_Hao.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">The Good, the Bad, and the Ambivalent: Equivalence Standards Program in Agricultural Trade<\/a>\u201d, explores food safety standards with regard to trade and the public interest in an increasingly interconnected global economy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 264px; height: 198px; float: left; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.georgetown.edu\/cct\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/240\/2019\/09\/20140828_Lu-Hao-conference_264x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Hao was first introduced to standards studies by her mentor, <a href=\"http:\/\/explore.georgetown.edu\/people\/garciadl\/\" rel=\"noopener\">CCT Professor Linda Garcia<\/a>, via the course, <a href=\"http:\/\/courses.georgetown.edu\/?courseID=CCTP-644\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Standards: What\u2019s at Stake<\/a>. Her Master\u2019s thesis, <a href=\"https:\/\/repository.library.georgetown.edu\/handle\/10822\/709740\" rel=\"noopener\">The Paradox of Safety Standard Setting in Globalized Agri-Food Production System<\/a>, examines safety standards setting in the US broiler industry between 1980s and 2010s. In August 2014, Ms. Hao attended t<span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">he <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.standards-education.org\/about-ices\" rel=\"noopener\">2014 International Cooperation for Education about Standardization (ICES) Conference<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\"> in Ottawa, Canada. She presented at the Panel: Perspectives of Young Professional and Students and talked about her experience and research focus in standards studies (<\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.standards-education.org\/uploads\/LuHao_2014%20ICES_PDF.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">click to view Lu\u2019s presentation<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">).
