The Syrian&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">civil war began in 2011 and Handan&#x2019;s goal&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">was to touch the lives of kids who were&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">born into the war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">Handan designed her project &#8211; winner of&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/modelun.org\/\">Georgetown International Relations&#x00a0;<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/modelun.org\/\">Association<\/a><\/strong>&#x2019;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/modelun.org\/grant\/\">Global Generations Grant<\/a><\/em> &#x2013;&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">to maximize social impact and serve as a&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">model for how to accomplish this impact&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">on a low budget and without local&#x00a0;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.538em;\">language skills.
