Upon the unexpected passing of her grandmother in Bolivia, she became painfully aware of Native language loss ramifications. Recognizing the potential for this same loss among friends in her D.C.-area community, she formed a team to address the problem. Many parents speak Quechua and often grandparents only speak Indigenous languages. \u201cI can\u2019t speak with my own grandmother,\u201d is often heard, demonstrating the importance of language revitalization to interpersonal connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After completing an undergraduate degree at Columbia College, Columbia University, Shana spent over a decade at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and in non-profits and grassroots work. They primarily reach their audience via <a href=\"https:\/\/instagram.com\/quechuaproject?igshid=9fl0ynew1whu\">an Instagram account<\/a> and in February 2021, released<a href=\"https:\/\/www.quechuaproject.org\/survey\"> The Quechua and Native Languages in the Bolivian DMV survey<\/a>. TQP also publishes the multimedia<a href=\"https:\/\/www.quechuaproject.org\/atiy\"> <em>Atiy<\/em> portrait series<\/a>, highlighting young community members.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serving and uplifting her community are values long driving Shana. For decades, she served in various leadership and cultural roles, earning respect among a generation of cultural dancers who she previously taught. Community member Jhannet Sejas remarks that \u201c[TQP] especially means a lot for those like [herself], who grew up being Quechua\u201d and that \u201cleadership, determination, achievement\u201d come to mind when thinking of Shana. \u201cHer passion in what [she is] doing is authentic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many<a href=\"https:\/\/www.quechuaproject.org\/contributors\"> CCT faculty and students<\/a> and other organizations have supported TQP. In October 2020, TQP moderated a Q&amp;A director\u2019s panel at the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maysumak.com\/virtual\">May Sumak international film showcase<\/a> supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/folklife.si.edu\/\">Smithsonian Center for Folklife<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/as.nyu.edu\/content\/nyu-as\/as\/research-centers\/clacs.html\">New York University (NYU)<\/a>. In December 2020, TQP showcased at the<a href=\"https:\/\/thequechua.org\/\"> 6<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Quechua Alliance Meeting<\/a> supported by<a href=\"https:\/\/web.sas.upenn.edu\/quechua\/\"> Quechua at Penn (University of Pennsylvania)<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/clas.berkeley.edu\/\"> CLAS at the University of California, Berkeley<\/a>, among others. At its core, they are a social justice initiative whose language revitalization supports the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/development\/desa\/indigenouspeoples\/declaration-on-the-rights-of-indigenous-peoples.html\"> UN Declaration on Indigenous People\u2019s Rights<\/a>.
