After graduating from CCT, Ashley Bowen went on to earn a master\u2019s degree in public humanities from Brown University and then a PhD in American Studies. Her dissertation focused on 19th century public health and medicine, the material culture of medicine, and representations of patient experience. At the\u00a0National Library of Medicine\u2019s Exhibition Program<\/a>,\u00a0she curated three exhibitions:\u00a0The Politics of Yellow Fever in Alexander Hamilton\u2019s America\u00a0(January 2019),\u00a0Rise, Serve, Lead! America\u2019s Women Physicians\u00a0(slated for March 2019), and\u00a0Rashes to Research: Scientists and Parents Respond to the 1964 Rubella Epidemic\u00a0(scheduled for June 2019).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Today, Ashley is a\u00a0Mellon\/ACLS Public Fellow<\/a>\u00a0and Digital Engagement Manager at the\u00a0Science History Institute<\/a>\u00a0(SHI). The SHI is a dynamic, humanities-based institution that fosters broad discussion on the place of science in society through historical collections, research, and innovative programming. As the Digital Engagement Manager, she connects the collections-based and outreach departments, developing methods for designing, evaluating, and analyzing digital initiatives.<\/p>\n

Ashley regularly participates in events like Nerd Nite and Atlas Obscura\u2019s\u00a0Obscura Society<\/a>, and she has written for\u00a0Atlas Obscura<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Book Riot<\/em><\/a>, and the Smithsonian\u2019s blogs. Check out her guest appearances on\u00a0C-SPAN\u2019s\u00a0History TV<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Baltimore Public Radio\u2019s\u00a0On the Record<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s roller derby! Ashley began skating with the\u00a0DC Rollergirls<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0Trashley Madison<\/a>, \u201con her way to steal your jam,\u201d in 2017. She plans to try out for the\u00a0Philadelphia Roller Derby\u00a0league<\/a> in late 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n
