\"NetworkedCCT Professor\u00a0Mohamed Zayani<\/a>\u00a0has been awarded the 2017 \u201cSue DeWine Distinguished\u00a0Scholarly Book Award\u201d from the\u00a0National Communication\u00a0Association<\/a>\u00a0(NCA) for his book\u00a0Networked\u00a0Publics and Digital Contention<\/a><\/em>\u00a0(Oxford UP, 2015).<\/p>\n

The book prize is awarded by the\u00a0Applied Communication Division<\/a>\u00a0of the NCA, and honors a book that makes significant contributions in applied communication theory and research.\u00a0The award will be conferred at the NCA’s 103rd\u00a0Annual Convention<\/a>, which will take\u00a0place this year in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n

The accolade is the fourth Prize Zayani\u2019s book received. Professor Zayani was previously awarded the “Communication, Information\u00a0Technologies,\u00a0and Media Sociology Book Award,” from the\u00a0American Sociological Association<\/a>\u00a0(ASA); “the Global Communication and Social Change Best Book Award,” from the\u00a0International Communication Association<\/a>\u00a0(ICA), and “the Toyin Falola Book Award,” from the\u00a0Association of the Global South Studies<\/a>\u00a0(AGSS).<\/p>\n

Networked Publics and Digital Contention<\/em>\u00a0is part of the\u00a0Oxford Studies in Digital Politics Series<\/a>.\u00a0“That Mohamed Zayani’s book won multiple awards, from different associations, attests not just to the impact of his work, but also its breadth.\u00a0 It is a great achievement,” said Oxford University Press editor Angela Chnapko.<\/p>\n

“Any study of the societal impact of new communication technologies must be broad-based and interdisciplinary. Georgetown’s Communication, Culture and Technology Program (CCT) focuses on such matters and applauds the National Communication Association for adding to the honors of Mohamed Zayani’s brilliant work,” said\u00a0CCT\u00a0Director\u00a0David\u00a0W. Lightfoot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Manuel Castells<\/a>, Wallis Annenberg Chair of Communication Technology and Society, University of Southern California, described Zayani\u2019s book as \u201ca major contribution to the understanding of social movements of the digital age.\u201d<\/p>\n

Networked Publics and Digital Contention<\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0the first of three book projects, supported by Georgetown University’s Center for International and Regional Studies<\/a> (CIRS), that Zayani has recently published. His forthcoming book\u00a0Digital Middle East: State and Society in the Information Age<\/a><\/em>, also by\u00a0Oxford University Press, will be released in 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
