A Bio Major’s Mission to Mars!

Laura Ratliff, a graduating senior and Biology major, has an internship that is out of this world! As a member of the Mars Exploration Program at NASA, Ratliff is putting her experience in the Johnson Biosignatures Laboratory to the test, researching methods for mapping the icy environments of the red planet. Surface ice is of crucial importance for any human-led missions to Mars, in terms of both obtaining water and studying Mars’ history through ice cores. This project allows Ratliff to combine her experience in astrobiology, biochemistry, and space policy to help us get to Mars!
