In this release, we’ve included three new 1789 patterns for pages only – one in the Hero and Intro category and two in the Promotional Category. We will need to turn on patterns for your site if you want to use them (if you have not already turned on patterns). Please send a message to webservices@georgetown.edu and let us know the URLs of the 1789 sites you want to use them on. If you have already turned on patterns for your site, you should be able to add them immediately.

Once they are enabled, you will access them via the Patterns section of the block inserter (the blue plus sign in the upper-left corner) . Note: You will see the following patterns in that section that are now functional – Image and Text Carousel, Vertical Video Testimonial, Ambient Video Hero (requires Visual Identity authorized video) Image Carousel Hero, Section Heading, Expandable Card Collection, Image Carousel, and Interactive Content Pane.

Patterns are made up of several blocks nested together. To work with this pattern, we recommend opening up the document overview (the three horizontal lines button in the upper-left corner). This will show you the pattern, and you can expand it to show all of its sub-blocks. We also advise you to open the inspector panel.

1. [New Pattern] Image and Text Carousel: We added a new pattern that allows you to show a collection of images next to a collection of text slides with an overarching heading and space for a second Heading, a paragraph, and a CTA. This mimics the Q&A Carousel developed for the main Georgetown site. You must have at least one image and two text slides.

This pattern should only be used on the Homepage and Landing pages for the best presentation (Posts, Post Filter, Parent-Child, and Chaptered are not supported).

Left Side: Contains image slides. You must have at least one image. You can have one or more images (you do not need to match the number of text slides). To add more slides, please use the add slide button.

Right Side: A content area that contains 3 text slides initially, as well as an overarching heading. Each slide contains space for a Heading, Paragraph(s), and a CTA. To add more slides, please use the add slide button. The pattern works best with 2 or more slides included.

2. [New Pattern] Vertical Video Testimonial: We added a new pattern that allows you to show a collection of vertical YouTube videos with a space for a Title, a description, and a CTA below each video. This mimics a similar block developed for the Capitol Campus site. You must have at least three videos to use this effectively. The pattern also contains optional eyebrow text, Title, description, and CTA fields that show above the collection of videos.

3. [New Pattern] Ambient Video Hero: We added a new pattern that allows you to show an ambient video. All ambient videos need to be approved by Visual Identity before you can use this pattern. Approved videos will be stored in their paid Vimeo account. This pattern should only be used on Homepages.
