Accessibility

Web accessibility means that all content on your website should be consumable by every visitor, regardless of ability. Many website visitors use assistive technologies like screenreaders, magnifiers, and Braille terminals to browse web content. Web accessibility is governed by a set of guidelines called Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508. At Georgetown, all websites should be accessible. At Georgetown, all websites should be AA-compliant. You can learn more about website accessibility on the Accessibility at Georgetown website.

Online Training

WordPress

Our “Introduction to WordPress” training is available in our online Canvas course! The purpose of this class is to introduce WordPress and give you access to a training site so you can become familiar with how the platform works at Georgetown. It’s recommended that all editors take this class, even those with previous WordPress experience. The course uses videos and is entirely online, so you can take it on your own time whenever you like, at your own pace. You can directly enroll in the course and get started right away by following the instructions below.

If you’ve never taken a Web Services course in Canvas:

  1. Log in to Canvas 
  2. Click “Enroll in Course”
  3. Click “Go to the Course”
  4. Click “Modules”
  5. Click “Introduction to WordPress

If you’ve previously taken a Web Services course in Canvas, you can go directly to “Introduction to WordPress.”

Siteimprove

Siteimprove is a tool used for monitoring accessibility issues, detecting content quality, finding broken links, and identifying search engine optimization issues. Learn more about Siteimprove and how to gain access.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics can be a valuable tool for tracking user behavior on your website, but should always be used in conjunction with your overall content strategy process.

Every Georgetown-hosted WordPress site is configured in Google Analytics. To request access to your site’s data, please email webservices@georgetown.edu. Once you are given access, you can log in at any time at analytics.google.com.

The Google Analytics Help Center provides excellent articles to support analytics users. If you have a specific question about your site’s analytics, please email webservices@georgetown.edu, and we’d be happy to assist you.

Support Tickets

Need some extra help? Email webservices@georgetown.edu to open a support ticket. Please include the website URL in your message. After a ticket has been resolved, please open a new ticket for a quicker response.

Website Access

Email webservices@georgetown.edu if you need access to a website or if you need a user removed from a website. Please include context, permission from the site manager, your NetID, and the website URL when requesting access.

Redirects

Email webservices@georgetown.edu if you need a redirect(s) put in place on your website. Please include the URLs of the old page(s) and the new page(s) in your message.

Office Hours

Web Services offers virtual WordPress Office Hours every week that give you the opportunity to address your specific questions with a Web Services team member.
